Ranji Trophy: Saha, Shami return to Bengal squad for semis

In a bid to keep India's Test specialists match-ready, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had decided to allow the likes of Shami, Saha and Umesh Yadav to represent their respective teams in the upcoming Ranji Trophy semifinals.

Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) joint secretary Avishek Dalmiya welcomed the board's decision by acknowledging that the return of 'two of its senior most players will be a boost for the Bengal team.'

Test players Wriddhiman Saha and Mohammed Shami along with top order batsman Sudip Chatterjee have made a comeback into the Bengal squad for the Ranji Trophy semifinal against Delhi, starting in Pune from December 17.

Earlier, in the quarterfinal against defending champion Gujarat, which ended in a dull draw, the good work of Bengal bowlers and the two centuries by opener Abhimanyu Easwaran, who was adjudged the man of the match, had propelled the team into its first semifinal since 2014.

Looking forward to the crucial encounter, captain Manoj Tiwary said, “We are emotional people, but it is important to stay focused as we want to win the  Ranji Trophy.  The youngsters need to keep calm. It is not a problem these days as they are taught by our coach (Sairaj Bahutule) how to do it.”
