Duleep Trophy 2024: Ishan Kishan joins India C playing XI; captain Ruturaj Gaikwad retires hurt

Kishan had been ruled out of the first round of the Duleep Trophy due to a groin injury.

In a surprise move, Ishan Kishan was included in the India C playing XI for its Duleep Trophy match against India B, revealed after the toss on day one.

It was learnt that Kishan was added to the India C squad on Wednesday and had also joined the team for practice the previous day.

Kishan had been ruled out of the first round of the Duleep Trophy due to a groin injury. He sustained the injury during the Buchi Babu Tournament in Tamil Nadu, where he played two matches for Jharkhand—his first multi-day games in over a year.

Gaikwad retires hurt

India C captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was forced to retire hurt just two balls into the Duleep Trophy 2024 second-round fixture against India B at the Rayalaseema Cricket Ground on Thursday.

Earlier, India B skipper Abhimanyu Easwaran won the toss and elected to field. Gaikwad started his innings with a boundary but had to leave the field shortly after, reportedly twisting his ankle while attempting a single in the first over.

He was replaced at the crease by Rajat Patidar, who came in at No. 3 to join opener Sai Sudharsan.

In its previous match, India C secured six points after a four-wicket victory over Shreyas Iyer’s India D in the opening round.

NO DRS

It has been confirmed that the match at the Rural Development Trust Stadium B-ground will not have the Decision Review System (DRS), unlike the previous round where DRS was available for both matches. However, the India A vs India D match has the DRS facility.
