In recent times, England has emerged as a batting powerhouse with capable strikers. The team has acquired a reputation for its batting depth, while having a fierce opening combination in Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow. Since the end of the Champions Trophy, the no. 1 ranked ODI side has tasted a high degree of success in run chases, winning 17 and losing just four times.
Breaking down its chasing exploits for targets of 275 and above, England has won six times out of 10. Roy and Bairstow, who came together as the opening pair in September, 2017, have been key during this period in tall chases.
Roy has scored 589 runs in England's six successful chases of 275 and more, with four hundreds and two fifties. Bairstow has struck two hundreds in five successful chases.
However, in matches where both have them have been dismissed relatively cheaply, England has lost. In one of these losses, chasing a mammoth 372 against Scotland, Bairstow hit a century, but Roy was dismissed for 34.
