World Cup 2019: Pakistan, Sri Lanka share points in Bristol after first washout

The two sides shared points after the weather gods refused to relent in Bristol.

Rain forced the Pakistan-Sri Lanka World Cup 2019 match to be abandoned in Bristol on Friday. This is the first washout in this edition of the tournament.

Pakistan and Sri Lanka were forced to split the two points. After a couple of inspections, umpires Nigel Llong and Ian Gould decided to call off the game at 3:46pm.

The sky was still cloudy when the final inspection was held, keeping in mind a 20-over-a-side game.

The notoriously unpredictable Pakistan side, in search of its second win, held its nerve to beat England by 14 runs at Trent Bridge on Monday, just three days after crashing to a seven-wicket defeat against the West Indies at the same venue.

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, beat Afghanistan in a rain-shortened match, also in Cardiff, to breathe life into its campaign. Both teams will be eagerly waiting for the weather gods to relent to get some action underway.
