Bangladesh fans had come in large numbers to cheer their team in a potential must-win game against Australia at Nottingham.
▲
Australia skipper Aaron Finch gave his side a good start by bringing up his 24th ODI fifty and sharing yet another 100-run partnership with David Warner. Finch also became the third fastest Australian to reach 1000 runs in a calendar year.
▲
David Warner might have been floored by a Rubel Hossain delivery. But the 32-year-old Australian had the last laugh as he made his 16th ODI century and second this World Cup to become the leading run-scorer of the tournament.
▲
Usman Khawaja continued his good form by giving Warner good company in a partnership of 192. Khawaja scored 89 runs off 72 balls with 10 fours.
▲
Surprisingly, part-time medium pacer Soumya Sarkar was Bangladesh's best bowler of the match with figures of three for 58 in eight overs. Sarkar got Finch, Warner and Khawaja out.
▲
Mahmudullah Riyad came when Bangladesh needed 207 runs from 124 balls and was in dire straits against Australia. The 33-year-old middle-order batsman scored 69 off 50 with five fours and three sixes and stitched together a 127-run partnership with Mushfiqur Rahim to put up a fight.
▲
The dangerous 100-run partnership was broken by Nathan Coulter-Nile, who picked up two wickets in consecutive balls. He removed Mahmudullah first and then bowled Sabbir Rahman out for a duck.
▲
Mushfiqur Rahim became the third Bangladesh player to score a World Cup hundred. He made an unbeaten 102, which included nine fours and one six. Unfortunately he couldn't take Bangladesh over the line as Australian bowlers held their nerve.
