India's Virat Kohli, left, begins to walk off after he was caught out for four runs against Australia on the third day of the Adelaide Test on Saturday.

Joe Burns brings up a comprehensive eight-wicket win with a six off Umesh Yadav. It'll also be his fifty as Australia go 1-0 up in the four-match Border Gavaskar Trophy. It's been a tough day for India - nothing went their day. From taking a first-innings lead to being bowled out for their lowest Test total ever, it's been quite an overnight turnaround for Virat Kohli and his men. Well, such are the vagaries of Test cricket. Kohli will now return home and Rahane will take over the reins of the Test team. All eyes will now be on how India bounce back from this defeat. The next contest will be the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne from December 26.

That would be all from our side. See you all next week!

AUSTRALIA VS INDIA: LIVE SCORECARD

GONE! Labuschagne holes out and Ashwin has one more. Australia, however, need just nine more to win.

GONE ! Wade is dismissed in the most unusual way. Gives Ashwin the charge, doesn't connect and the ball ricochets off Prithvi's right leg at short-leg, and the ball rolls to Saha, who has the presence of mind to take down the stumps with Wade well out of his crease.

Australia 55/0 after 15 Overs: There will be some soul-searching from the Indians after this defeat. They have a week before the Boxing Day Test. Meanwhile, Wade and Burns are ambling towards the target.

Australia 51/0 after 12 Overs:  Wade and Burns bring up their 50-run stand. Ashwin is having a bowl but you'd imagine this is all too little too late for India. Just a matter of time before Australia chalk off these runs.

Australia 47/0 after 9 Overs: Umesh needs to get his line and length right. Unlike the Aussies, who attacked the stumps, Umesh has relied on the sjort ball. Likewise with Bumrah. Burns, in the meantime, has shown more intent than the first innings; pulling Bumrah over mid-wicket for four. Wade laying into Umesh, collects two boundaries. Australia cruising at the moment.

Australia 20/0 after 6 Overs: Welcome back. Wade on strike. Bumrah to resume proceedings. Burns gets a boundary against his name. Australia chipping away at that total.

DINNER BREAK: Australia 15/0 as the teams break for dinner. They need 75 runs to win and take a 1-0 lead in the four-match series. A session of joy and despair depending on whom you are supporting. India were one down at the start of the day's play but Bumrah's dismissal off Cummins triggered a collapse which saw India fold for its lowest Test total ever - 36 for 9 with Mohammed Shami retiring hurt after being struck on the arm.  Hazlewood 5-3-8-5.

Burns in discomfort. He is getting some medical attention. Burns is taped up and set to resume.

Australia 15/0 after 4 Overs: Wade has looked to remain positive; there is no scoreboard pressure really. He collects a boundary off Umesh while Burfns gets pinged on the forearm by a Bumrah short ball.

Australia 4/0 after 1 Over: Umesh will take the new ball. Wade and Burns to start the chase. Wade throws his bat at a wide ball and gets four for it. Four off the first over.

==============================

Mohammed Shami retires hurt after being struck on the hand by a Cummins delivery. So, Australia need 90 to win. That is India's lowest Test score. What's worse? They'll have to try and defend 89 with just three bowlers - remember Shami was struck on his bowling arm. Just a nightmare for the visitors.

GONE! Five-for Hazlewood - gets Vihari caught behind. India unravelling in the most dramatic fashion. IND 31/9.

GONE! Hazlewood is on a hat-trick. He gets Ashwin caught behind next ball. Pandemonium out in the middle. IND 26/8.

GONE! Saha bites the dust. Hazlewood has his third. India sink further. IND 26/7. The lead is just 79.

India 21/6 after 16 Overs: India's lowest Test total is 42. Still a long way away. This has been a masterful exhibition of seam bowling from Cummins and Hazlewood. The duo has ripped through India's batting. Hanuma Vihari and Wriddhiman Saha are out in the middle - the last recognised batting pair. India lead by 74 runs. India's lowest total in Australia is 58.

GONE! Disaster for India as Cummins gets Kohli caught in the cordon, Cameron Green's first catch in international cricket. The lead is just 72!

GONE! They are falling like nine pins, Hazlewood gets Rahane out for a duck. India five down for 15.

GONE! India's top-order falling apart, Hazlewood gets Agarwal out caught behind. India four down for 15. India's lead is just 68.

GONE! Huge moment in the match: Cummins gets Pujara caught behind for a duck. India three down for 15.

India 15/2 after 11 Overs: Cummins and Starc in tandem. Interesting tactics vs Pujara, suggests Australia are going for the jugular from ball one. Three slips, gully, short leg and leg-gully in place for India's No.3, who safely negotiates his first six deliveries against the World's No. 1 Test bowler, Cummins. The ploy seems to be to bowl short to Pujara.

India 15/2 after 8 Overs:GONE! Bumrah's stay comes to an end, Pat Cummins with the breakthrough. Pujara joins Agarwal. Two runs and a wicket from the Cummins over. More importantly, Australia have got rid of the night-watchman early in the day.

India 13/1 after 7 Overs: Out come the Australians led by Tim Paine. Bumrah and Agarwal strut out to the middle. Agarwal will take strike. Starc to start proceedings. Short leg in place. A hint of swing first up. Agarwal flicks one away to deep square leg for four. Four from the over.

Day 3 : Good morning and welcome back. It's a hotter day in Adelaide today, Isa Guha suggests and the pitch looks drier and more brown in colour. Will be interesting to see Bumrah's approach with the bat. His defensive technique was on point last night but will he look to defend or go after the bowlers - we will find out soon enough.
