India trained at the Sinhalese Sports Club here on Tuesday as part of its preparations for the second Test commencing on Thursday. And for the visiting camp, there was the heartening sight of K.L. Rahul batting in the nets. The opener, who missed the first Test at Galle due to a viral fever, had his stints against pace, spin and throw-downs.

Asked about Rahul’s match-fitness, head-coach Ravi Shastri said: “He is good. He went through some tough times, he was in the hospital for two to three days. Obviously it has taken a lot out of him. So we have to be very careful how we treat him, we are watching him very closely and he is getting better by the day.”

In Rahul’s absence, openers Shikhar Dhawan (190) and Abhinav Mukund (81) had decent outings at the crease in Galle.
