The Supreme Court verdict against the BCCI has forced the Karnataka State Cricket Association to appoint an interim president and secretary.

Sanjay Desai and R. Sudhakar Rao were elected the Karnataka State Cricket Association’s interim president and secretary respectively on Thursday, following the exit of its top office-bearers.

The KSCA chose the duo, along with Srinivasa Murthy as treasurer, at an Emergent Managing Committee meeting here. The move came after Brijesh Patel (secretary), P.R. Ashok Anand (president) and Dayananda Pai (treasurer) demitted office earlier this week, following the Supreme Court’s order requiring implementation of the Lodha Committee reforms.

Both Desai (61) and Rao (64) were vice-presidents, in addition to being members of the State Senior selection committee. Their elevation to the top jobs necessitated them to resign as selectors, with their places filled by Raghuram Bhat and V.S. Thilak Naidu. Bhat will serve as chairman of the selection committee.

“The interim period will last till the elections are conducted. We have referred the matter [of conducting elections] to our legal committee. We have to call for a special general body meeting and amend our constitution before elections can be conducted. The process is on,” said KSCA spokesperson Vinay Mruthyunjaya.
