Ishant Sharma remained unsold in the last IPL auction.

The Delhi Capitals, which picked Ishant Sharma for Rs 1.1 crore, has decided to use the India pacer mostly for the early and middle overs.

“We are not looking at him for the death,” Parth Jindal, the co-owner of the franchise, said.

“We have very good fast bowlers in the team. (Trent) Boult, (Kagiso) Rabada. Ishant’s role will be to give support whenever he plays. We released a few players and made Ishant part of our plans. He is also a Delhi boy, so it is good to have him back,” Jindal said.

The franchise also roped in Axar Patel and Hanuma Vihari. “The core of the team has remained the same with Prithvi (Shaw), (Rishabh) Pant, (Shreyas) Iyer. We have added Shikhar Dhawan. Last season, we did not have a quality Indian all-rounder. With Axar, we have a great all-rounder. Hanuma is in the Test team, he can bowl off-spin so that adds depth,” he said.

Ishant didn’t even attract a bid in the last auction and now that he has found a taker in Delhi, here is a chance for the pacer to make it count.
