M.S. Dhoni, on Sunday night brought the roof down at Chinnaswamy Stadium with a thrilling last over finish which saw Chennai Super Kings lose to Royal Challengers Bangalore by one run.
With 26 needed off the final over, Dhoni dispatched Umesh Yadav over square leg for four before carting a 111-metre six off the next ball. Yadav then failed to land the yorker right and paid the price by getting smacked for another six, this time over long-off.
Dhoni's power hitting brought the equation down to 10 off 3 balls. The CSK skipper responded with a brace and then a friendly full toss disappeared over deep midwicket.
However, needing just two to win and one for a super over, Dhoni failed to connect the last ball and Shardul Thakur was run out as the duo tried to steal a difficult single.
Dhoni went from 27 off 23 balls to 84 off 48 — his highest T20 score — with the help of seven sixes and five boundaries but couldn't prevent Chennai from slipping to defeat on a night when the fans were once again left gasping for breath by a M.S.D special.
