GT vs CSK, IPL 2024: Can Chennai Super Kings qualify for playoffs despite loss to Gujarat Titans today?

IPL 2024: Despite the loss against the Titans, CSK can get to 16 points with wins in its remaining two matches against Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) suffered a setback to its playoff qualification hopes after suffering a loss against the Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad on Friday.

CSK has 12 points from 12 games and currently sits in the fourth spot. A win over Titans would have taken the side to 14 points and into the third place, ahead of Sunrisers Hyderabad on Net Run Rate.

CSK can get to 16 points with wins over Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in its last two encounters. However, 16 points will not be enough to secure its passage to the playoffs just yet. Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals also have 12 points and with them facing each other, at least one can get to 16 points, meaning Net Run Rate will come into play.

If CSK manage only one win in its remaining two games, it will have to rely on LSG or DC winning only one of their remaining two matches.

Further, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, with 10 points in 12 games, can also win its remaining games to get to 14 points.

If CSK fail to win even a single encounter, it will be eliminated from the playoff race as one of DC or LSG will definitely get to 14 points.
