Preity Zinta: We needed Mohit

"I think we were made to (stretch our budget), we needed a fast bowler, who could bowl at the death. Sometimes (other) franchises push up the price, sometimes it is intentional, sometimes it is unintentional. We wanted Mohit," Zinta said.

Priety Zinta said Kings XI Punjab needed a fast bowler, who could bowl at the death.

Kings XI Punjab co-owner Preity Zinta expressed happiness after buying seamer Mohit Sharma at Rs.6.5 crore. But she admitted that her team’s resources were stretched during the IPL auction here on Saturday.

“I think we were made to (stretch our budget), we needed a fast bowler, who could bowl at the death. Sometimes (other) franchises push up the price, sometimes it is intentional, sometimes it is unintentional. We wanted Mohit,” Zinta said.

MOHALI WILL STAY AS A VENUE

Asked if she wrote to the Punjab Cricket Association about her unhappiness of Mohali being the home venue, Zinta denied it outright and said: “For the record I have not written any letter.”

When questions continued about issues affecting Mohali, the IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla stepped in and said: “In the IPL Governing Council meeting, we have already taken a decision; the franchise has to play a minimum of four games at their centre (home-ground). The remaining three, they can play at other venues.”
