Lodha recommendations: GCA office bearers resign

Adhering to the Lodha panel recommendations, three senior office bearers of the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) on Monday tendered their resignations from their respective posts citing the maximum tenure rule.

Those who have resigned are GCA Vice-President K. L. Contractor, Treasurer Dhiraj Jogani and Secretary Rajesh Patel.

Adhering to the Lodha panel recommendations, three senior office bearers of the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) on Monday tendered their resignations from their respective posts citing the maximum tenure rule.

The officials tendered their resignations here in the presence of GCA Vice-President Parimal Nathwani.

Those who have resigned are GCA Vice-President K. L. Contractor, Treasurer Dhiraj Jogani and Secretary Rajesh Patel.

Contractor was associated with GCA for around 12 years while Patel was with the cricketing body for around nine years. Jogani was serving as treasurer since the last five terms.

Nathwani was here to attend the foundation stone laying ceremony of the upcoming cricket stadium at Motera.

On January 2, the Supreme Court had asked BCCI and all the State associations to implement the recommendations of the committee headed by former Chief Justice of India Justice (Retd) R. M. Lodha.

Meanwhile, Nathwani said the entire cricketing fraternity should not be punished for the wrongdoings of a few people.

“Cricket bodies are governed under the Trust Act. We do not take any grants from the government. We generate income from cricket and cricketers. We do not take anything from the government. And yet, it is very surprising and shocking that someone has to resign because his tenure is over,” said Nathwani.

“The action taken by Supreme Court is very painful. Such a harsh step on us is very unfortunate. Entire cricket fraternity has been punished for the wrongdoings of a few people. However, we respect the order of the Supreme Court and we do not wish to comment anything against it,” he added.

ACA elects interim panel

Andhra Cricket Association, as the first step towards implementing Lodha Committee recommendations, elected an interim panel by filling up the top three posts which fell vacant following the SC orders, at the executive committee meeting held here on Monday.

The interim ACA panel: G.V.K. Ranga Raju (president); Ch. Arun Kumar (secretary); V. Durga Prasad (joint secretary); K.S. Ramachandra Rao (treasurer), P.V. Deva Varma (vice-president).

No stay on HCA polls

Justice Durgaprasad of the Hyderabad High Court, on Monday, was not inclined to grant a stay on the polling for the election of office-bearers to the Hyderabad Cricket Association to be held on Tuesday morning.

He was dealing with a writ petition filed by Naresh Sharma of the East Marredpally Cricket Club, seeking a ‘writ of prohibition’ requesting the electoral process be stalled. This case was moved as a house motion. The Judge ordered notices on the matters to be heard after two days.

Mohd. Azharuddin tried to move a house motion on Monday before another judge which was not accepted.
