Hyderabad captain Ambati Rayudu has been handed a two-match suspension for breaching the BCCI code of conduct during the Syed Mustaq Ali Trophy match against Karnataka on January 11.

"Mr. Rayudu is barred from participating in the first two matches for Hyderabad in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy," a BCCI release said.

"The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Abhijit Deshmukh, Ulhas Vithalrao Gandhe, and third umpire Anil Dandekar," it added.

Hyderabad, Karnataka embroiled in controversy in T20 match

At the end of the match at Vishakapatinam, several Hyderabad players entered the square over an umpiring incident which created confusion to the scorecard. The umpires added two more runs to the Karnataka scoreboard after it was learned that Hyderabad's Mehedi Hasan's foot was touching the rope while touching the ball during a passage a play.

"There was some confusion in the middle at the start of our innings. What I went and told the umpire was 'sir you cannot change the score, we are batting for 204 as our target,’ ” said Rayudu.

"He (umpire) said 'we'll see it at the end, let the match start.’ The match was stopped for nine minutes, before the second innings. They had no business to stop the match once the target was declared,” Rayudu opined.

Things seemed to spiral out of control when the last ball of the day was bowled and Hyderabad fell short. The Hyderabad camp wanted a super over. "That is exactly our point of contention. We never even thought of stopping the second match (which was reduced to 13-overs-a-side). We were insisting that our match was not complete, we still have to play the Super Over,” Rayudu reasoned.   Ishant to lead Delhi in Vijay Hazare Trophy

The 32-year-old batsman pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by BCCI and, as such, there was no need for a formal hearing.   The BCCI is further looking into the role of Hyderabad team manager in this untoward incident.
