Wish I could have a couple of sessions with Pant, says Farokh Engineer

Farokh Engineer is not impressed with Rishabh Pant's wicket-keeping skills.

Rishabh Pant has impressed one and all with his fine batting display Down Under but has not been that impressive behind the stumps.

Throughout the Test series, the commentators and cricket experts have raised questions over Pant’s wicket-keeping abilities and former India stumper-batsman, Farokh Engineer, believes Pant’s keeping abilities need to improve a lot.

“Rishabh reminds me of my young days. His approach is same as M.S. Dhoni’s. But don’t praise him sky-high at the moment,” Engineer said at an event organised by the Legends Club on Wednesday.

He also felt that Pant needs time to prove himself as a good stumper. “His wicket-keeping needs to be improved a lot. It is technically so incorrect. Give him time,” Engineer said.

The former cricketer also remembered how Sachin Tendulkar brought Dhoni to him years ago.

“I was commentating in England then and Dhoni came to me and I gave him a few tips,” Engineer said, adding that he would have liked to do something similar with Pant.

“I wish I could have a couple of sessions with him, he would come out million dollars (better),” he said.

But what’s going wrong with Pant?

“He snatches the ball too early, does not move his feet. (Jasprit) Bumrah bowled so well in the series, going down the wicket, and he was (only) diving. A good wicketkeeper would move his feet,” Engineer explained.

However, Engineer is happy with the way Pant has let his willow do the talking and he hopes to see the youngster climb up the ladder in the years to come.
