Robin Uthappa was offered the position of captain for the Kerala team.

Robin Uthappa has parted ways with Karnataka for the upcoming Ranji Trophy season, choosing to represent Saurashtra. The batsman had so far represented only Karnataka in his domestic career of 130 matches spanning 14 years. Uthappa has also played for the India in One-Day Internationals and Twenty20 Internationals.

"Saurashtra Cricket Association welcomes Robin Uthappa," the SCA said in a press release on Thursday. "Uthappa has completed all necessary formalities to BCCI, Saurashtra Cricket Association and Karnataka State Cricket Association. SCA feels confident that Robin will add strength to the strong Ranji team of Saurashtra with his vast experience and commendable performance."

It had been apparent Uthappa may change his domestic side after last season. Kerala Cricket Association secretary Jayesh George had told Sportstar in June Uthappa had been offered the position of captain.

Saurashtra, the 2015-16 runner-up, is a strong domestic side, and has produced India internationals in top-order batsman Cheteshwar Pujara and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.
