S. Suresh to coach franchise in TNPL

The former all-rounder said, “This is a format where we will be seeking multi-dimensional cricketers. Because of a strong league structure here, there will be a lot of cricketers to pick from.”

Former Tamil Nadu Ranji captain S. Suresh has been roped in as coach by the franchise owned by Ruby Builders for the upcoming TNPL Twenty20 compeition.

The 42-year played 43 first class matches scoring 1,965 runs (average 29.32) and picking up 89 wickets (25.87) with his handy medium pace.

He also figured in 52 List `A’ matches making 1,448 runs at 31.47 and claiming 44 wickets (economy rate 4.71).

Speaking to Sportstar , Suresh said, “The TNPL will be a good tournament, throwing up a lot of talent. I am looking forward to the player draft and pick the types of players we need.”

Following his retirement as a cricketer in 2009, Suresh has been in touch with the game. After serving as the Tamil Nadu under-22 coach, he was one of the State senior selectors from 2011 to 2013. Over the last two years, he has been involved with Grand Slam in the TNCA first division league.

The former all-rounder said, “This is a format where we will be seeking multi-dimensional cricketers. Because of a strong league structure here, there will be a lot of cricketers to pick from.”

He added, “There will be depth in the field. Not just the first division cricketers, some lower division players too can be very effective in Twenty20 cricket. We also have plenty of talent in the districts.”
