New South Wales fast bowler Sean Abbott and onlookers suffered a scary moment in a Sheffield Shield contest against Victoria on Sunday, when his bouncer struck batsman Will Pucovski on the helmet. It was a blow reminiscent of Abbott’s bouncer that took the life of Phillip Hughes three years ago.

Pucovski suffered concussion for the third time this season; after being hit on the helmet, he seemed to lose control over himself and fall on his knees on the pitch. Abbott immediately caught him before medical assistance was called for.

After receiving treatment, Pucovski was able to walk off the ground assisted by a medical team.

Cricket Victoria doctor confirmed Pucovski was ruled out of the match. “Will has been ruled out of the remainder of the match and we will continue to monitor him over the coming days, and we can then determine a return to play plan for him,” he was quoted in a Cricket Victoria communique.

Aaron Finch, the Victoria captain, was shaken by the incident. “It was very scary. With his history of head knocks and with what happened to Hughesy a few years ago, it is never nice to see anyone get hit,” he was quoted as saying by wwos.nine.com.au .
