Selection committee pruned to three-member panel

In response to BCCI chief executive officer Rahul Johri's query, the Lodha Committee said, "In accordance with the recommendations of the committee as approved by the SC, it would be appropriate for further selections to be made by a three-member selection committee."

From now on, the three remaining members, chief selector M.S.K. Prasad, Devang Gandhi and Sarandeep Singh, who have Test experience, will carry out selection of teams.

The Justice R.M. Lodha Committee has advised the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) that only three selectors should be part of the National selection panel.

BCCI chief executive officer Rahul Johri on Wednesday had asked the Lodha Committee to advise whether the Rest of India team for the Irani Trophy would be picked by all the five members of the selection panel or by three members with Test match experience.

In its response, the Lodha Committee said, “In accordance with the recommendations of the committee as approved by the Supreme Court, it would be appropriate for further selections to be made by a three-member selection committee. You may therefore prune the selection committee accordingly to the three selectors with Test experience.”

Accordingly, two members, Gagan Khoda and Jatin Paranjape, who do not have the experience of playing Test matches, would be excluded from the selection panel.

From now on, the three remaining members, chief selector M.S.K. Prasad, Devang Gandhi and Sarandeep Singh, who have Test experience, will carry out selection of teams.

Since the Rest of India team is normally picked on the last day of the Ranji Trophy final, the three-member panel is likely to meet on January 14 to carry out the duty.
