Bangladesh will be without fast bowler Shafiul Islam for the second Test with West Indies after he sustained an ankle injury during Tuesday's practice.

Shafiul was in contention for a place in the Tigers' team in Jamaica as it looks to bounce back from the humiliating defeat in Antigua – West Indies winning by an innings and 219 runs.

However, he will be unavailable to captain Shakib Al Hasan after damaging the ligaments in his right ankle, which could sideline him for up to six weeks.

"An x-ray revealed no bone injury," a Bangladesh Cricket Board statement read. "National team physio Thihan Chandramohan said the current diagnosis was a Grade 2 lateral ligament sprain with medial bone bruising."

Chadramohan added: "He is unavailable for selection for the second Test and will likely be unavailable for three to six weeks depending on further assessment. He will remain with team and travel home after the match. We expect the acute swelling to reduce by that time."
