The inaugural T20 Mumbai League received another shot in the arm as legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar agreed to come on board as its league commissioner.

Gavaskar's appointment for the six-team franchise-based league, to be played at the Wankhede Stadium from March 11 to 21, was announced through a joint statement by the Mumbai Cricket Association and Probability Sports , the league managers.

Lending 'strength'

“His immense experience and passion for the game will provide strength to the league. We look forward to his invaluable insights to make the T20 Mumbai League the best in the cricketing world,” said Ashish Shelar, the MCA president.

Gavaskar, thus, joins another legend from Mumbai, Sachin Tendulkar, to be lending credibility to the league by joining it. Tendulkar was last week unveiled as the ambassador of the league.

It remains unclear whether Gavaskar will be involved in the actual conduct of the league or will play a peripheral role.

In the aftermath of the Indian Premier League's (IPL's) 2013 corruption scandal, Gavaskar, the former India captain, was appointed by the Supreme Court as the BCCI's president for the IPL.
