Hello and welcome to Sportstar's live coverage of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021 quarterfinal match being played between Tamil Nadu and Himachal Pradesh at the Motera Stadium.

TAMIL NADU  141/5 (17.5 overs)   beat   135/9 (20)  HIMACHAL PRADESH

Thank you for joining us tonight! Come back and join us tomorrow for the second set of quarter-finals from 12 pm.
Good night!

Brief scores: Himachal Pradesh 135/9 in 20 overs  (Dhawan 35*, Sonu Yadav 3/14, Sandeep Warrier 2/32) lost to Tamil Nadu 141/5 in 17.5 overs (Aparajith 52*, Shahrukh 40*, Arora 3/30) by five wickets

The Result: TN 141/5 after 17.5 overs: Aparajith finishes in style! A thumping pull for six over midwicket to bring up his fifty! A stellar cameo from Shahrukh Khan and Aparajith's solid display has put Tamil Nadu in the semifinals in a remarkable comeback win.

From a point of 66/5 in the chase, Aparajith combined with a Shahrukh Khan who did not flinch from the start and took the attack to the Himachal bowlers. It was a no-brainer that the Himachal did not have enough runs on the board, but an excellent opening spell from Vaibhav Arora provided them with confidence to go for the win. However, this has been a remarkable effort and all credits head Aparajith and Shahrukh's way.

TN 125/5 after 13 overs: Sensational Shahrukh!  A masterly late-cut steamrolls to the boundary first and he steps down to Mayank Dagar and thwarts the next ball for six! 11 needed off 18 for TN , a mere formality now.

25 needed off 24 balls for Tamil Nadu! How the tables have turned....

TN 97/5 after 13 overs: 18 runs from the over! Aparajith takes on Arora first with a couple of delightful boundaries and Shahrukh Khan pummelled the pacer for two more boundaries to rally this match back in TN's favour. 39 needed of 30 for Tamil Nadu.

TN 68/5 after 13 overs: OUT! Dinesh Karthik has been dismissed cheaply! Mayank Dagar and Himachal are ecstatic as the pressure crept into Karthik who has thrown his wicket after failing to connect a paddle sweep. Himachal has turned this around to sit in the driver's seat. Dinesh Karthik c †Chopra b Dagar 2 (5b 0x4 0x6)

TN 60/4 after 11 overs: OUT! Sonu Yadav has been caught at long-on boundary after trying to make a move on. Tamil Nadu in serious trouble as Dinesh Karthik walks in. Can Dinesh Karthik rekindle another magical finish?  Sonu Yadav c Nitin Sharma b Jaswal 16 (16b 2x4 0x6)

TN 36/3 after 6 overs: Skipper Karthik has promoted Sonu Yadav and he has hit a boundary on the stroke of the powerplay. TN finds themselves on the backfoot after an excellent start by the Himachal bowlers.

TN 25/3 after 4 overs: DOUBLE WICKET-MAIDEN! A sensational spell from Vaibhav Arora. He has snapped the TN top-order in the matter of two overs and has cleaned up Hari Nishanth and Arun Karthik in a single over as Tamil Nadu finds itself in a spot of bother early on. C Hari Nishanth b Arora 17 (13b 2x4 0x6), Arun Karthik b Arora 0 (3b 0x4 0x6)

TN 18/1 after 2 overs: OUT! A cracking inswinging snorter from Vaibhav Arora to clean up Jagadeesan!  What a delivery from the paceman to remove the TN opener who has been in blistering touch throughout the tournament.  Poor antics from Jagadeesan against the swinging delivery as his feet are caught in the crease.  Narayan Jagadeesan b Arora 7 (6b 1x4 0x6)

TN 13/0 after 1 over: A poor start from Dhawan. Jagadeesan and Hari have each hit a boundary as TN is of to a brisk start in the chase.

Welcome to the chase.  TN openers Jagadeesan and Hari Nishanth at the crease. HP skipper Rishi Dhawan with the ball.

Brief Score: HP 135/9 - Dhawan 35*, Sonu Yadav 3/14, Sandeep Warrier 2/32

Fall of wickets: 1-24 (Prashant Chopra, 3.2 ov), 2-39 (Abhimanyu Rana, 6.6 ov), 3-68 (Nitin Sharma, 11.3 ov), 4-99 (Ravi Thakur, 14.5 ov), 5-109 (Ayush Jamwal, 16.2 ov), 6-120 (Pankaj Jaswal, 17.3 ov), 7-126 (Ekant Sen, 18.5 ov), 8-127 (Digvijay Rangi, 19.1 ov), 9-130 (Mayank Dagar, 19.4 ov)

Himachal 135/9 after 20 overs: A couple of sloppy dismissals as the Himachal tail fails to get their skipper Dhawan on strike. This has been a rather poor outing for their side as there was no game plane whatsoever from the HP batsmen. Dinesh Karthik and Co. kept the pressure throughout and has done some smart work to restrict their opponent to 135. TN needs 136 in 20 overs to enter the semi-finals.

Himachal 126/7 after 19 overs: OUT! Frustrating couple of overs for Rishi Dhawan who could only face two balls in the last two overs while Himachal has lost a couple of more wicket. Sonu Yadav picked his third as Sen brushes a ball down the leg side to Karthik. Ekant Sen c †KD Karthik b Sonu Yadav 5 (7b 1x4 0x6)

Himachal 113/5 after 17 overs: OUT! A cracking seaming delivery from Sonu Yadav cleans up Jamwal. The skipper Rishi Dhawan is running out of partners as Himachal find half their man back in the dugout. Ayush Jamwal b Sonu Yadav 3 (4b 0x4 0x6)

Himachal 100/4 after 15 overs: OUT! Ravi Thakur tries one shot too many as he holes at the deep midwicket fence after finding success from two slogs off Sai Kishore. The 100 is up after 15 overs. Himachal will hope to make 50 in five overs to get anywhere near a decent total Ravi Thakur c Aparajith b Sai Kishore 16 (18b 1x4)

Himachal 72/3 after 12 overs: OUT! Karthik has brought back Warrier and he has struck instantly. Nitin Sharma in his bid to accelerate has holed out to  Arun Karthik at mid-on. The ball rushed onto him and Sharma mistimed the pull which led to a top-edge. Himachal slumps further. Nitin Sharma c Arun Karthik b Sandeep Warrier 26 (26b 1x4 1x6)

Himachal 55/2 after 10 overs: This has been a disastrous first half for HP in their innings. The batsman have showed no signs of aggression and has let Dinesh Karthik and his men apply the pressure on them.  Surely, it's time for Sharma and Thakur to make a move.

Himachal 39/2 after 7 overs: OUT! Abhimanyu Rana has run himself out on a misfield. He tries to sneak in for a the second after the ball rolls on to Ashwin at fine leg.  The leggie hits the stumps at the keepers end and Rana is inches short of the crease. Abhimanyu Rana run out (Ashwin) 28 (26b 5x4 0x6)

Himachal 31/1 after 6 overs: Tamil Nadu has held Himachal back after getting a solid start. Abhimanyu Rana who began with a string of boundaries has now struggled to get going with the spinners entering the attack. A poor start for HP given the excellent conditions.

Himachal 24/1 after 4 overs: WICKET-MAIDEN from Sonu Yadav! Chopra's awry innings has come to an end as he chopped on a straighter delivery from Yadav. Yadav continues to pitch on a nagging line and has prompted the new man Nitin Sharma to play a dead bat.  Prashant Chopra b Sonu Yadav 6 (6b 1x4 0x6)

Himachal 16/0 after 2 overs: DROPPED! Chopra has a second lifeline in two overs. A regulation catch for Arun Karthik at point and the experienced hand as put it down. Chopra has a streaky start but manages to survive.

Himachal 10/0 after 1 over: A frustrating start for Warrier and Tamil Nadu. Warrier forces Chopra to flick to the deep fine leg fielder Mohammed who misses a sitter under the lights as the ball races to the boundary.

MATCH UNDERWAY.  HP openers Abhimanyu Rana and Prashant Chopra at the middle. Sandeep Warrier with the new ball.

Punjab thrashes a hapless Karnataka by nine wickets to reach the semifinals. A fine allround performance from Punjab's bowlers and quickfire knocks from Mandeep and Prabhsimran were the highlights. Siddarth Kaul picked three for 15.

BRIEF SCORE:

Karnataka 87 in 17.2 overs (Siddarth Kaul 3/15) lost to Punjab 89/1 in 12.4 overs (Prabhsimran Singh 49 n.o., Mandeep Singh 35 n.o.).

- END OF MATCH -

Punjab 64/1 after 10 Overs : Suchith and Gopal seem to be going through the otions at the moment. Punjab are within striking distance of sealing a semifinal berth here.

Punjab 55/1 after 8 Overs : Shreyas Gopal and Praveen Dubey bowling in tandem. With Punjab inching towards a big win, Mandeep and Prabhsimran are content to nurdle the singles while cashing in on the loose balls.

Punjab 40/1 after 6 Overs : Prabhsimran's on a roll with the IPL auctions around the corner. Prasidh, back into the attack, angles one into Singh, who clears his front leg and hammers it over mid-wicket for six. What a shot. Meanwhile, Mandeep cut loose against Koushik, collecting two back-to-back fours off the medium pacer.

Punjab 24/1 after 4 Overs : Mandeep opened his account with a pull shot for four. V Koushik has been introduced into the attack, replacing Prasidh. He was taken for six by Prabhsimran, who smoked a back of a length ball over long-off for six.

Punjab 9/1 after 2 Overs : Abhimanyu Mithun got rid of opener Abhishek Sharma in his first over. Just the start Karnataka were hoping for. Sharma's dismissal has brought Mandeep Singh to the crease. Prasidh Krishna is sharing the new ball with Mithun.

- PUNJAB INNINGS -

Siddarth Kaul picks three as Karnataka fold for a paltry 87. An outstanding bowling performance from Punjab, never let Karnataka get away with the game. Mandeep Singh & Co. need 88 to beat Karnataka and reach SMAT semifinal.

Karnataka 86/8 after 16 Overs: The wickets continue to tumble for Karnataka. Mayank Markande clean bowls Joshi with a googly before Arshdeep Singh castles Dubey. V Koushik joins Mithun.

Karnataka 82/6 after 14 Overs: Mayank and Ramandeep keeping a lid on Karnataka's scoring rate. No freebies on offer. Joshi has been the lone fighter for Karnataka from the batting department.

Karnataka 73/6 after 12 Overs: Karnataka batsmen are finding ways to get out: Suchith is stranded down leg as Ramandeep Singh gets his second. Praveen Dubey joins Joshi. Meanwhile, Mayank Markande conceded six singles in his first over.

Karnataka 66/5 after 10 Overs: Good thinking from Mandeep, who turns to Siddarth Kaul for another crack. But Joshi and Suchith collect nine off Siddarth's third, thanks to a boundary each for both batsmen. Joshi has looked in control thus far, and Suchith can bat. Karnataka would want these two to bat through.

Karnataka 51/5 after 8 Overs: Ramandeep Singh, right-arm medium, gets the wicket of Shreyas Gopal with the last ball of his first over. Karnataka are falling apart in spectacular fashion. J suchith has joined Aniruddha Joshi.

Karnataka 37/4 after 6 Overs: Arshdeep Singh, back for a new spell, gets Sharath caught at slip as Karnataka's slide continues. Aniruddha Joshi has been joined by Shreyas Gopal. Punjab have been relentless so far. Siddarth Kaul's figures so far: 2-1-5-2. Mandeep's decision to bowl first being vindicated.

Karnataka 26/3 after 4 Overs: Karun Nair's lean patch continues. He is out for 12 off 9 deliveries off Sandeep Sharma's bowling. Siddarth Kaul then wreaked havoc on Karnataka's top-order by getting Padikkal and Deshpande in his first over. Kaul began his spell with a double-wicket maiden. BR Sharath and Anirudha Joshi are at the crease.

Karnataka 15/0 after 2 Overs: Nair got off the mark with a delightful cover drive off Sandeep Sharma in the first over. There is some movement straightaway for Sandeep. Left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh is getting to swing the ball in the air. He even induced an outside edge off Nair, and the ball raced away to the third-man fence. There was no slip there for some reason. Punjab need to attack. Encouraging signs for the bowlers.

TOSS UPDATE: Punjab has won the toss and elected to bowl first.
