England beat Sri Lanka by four wickets in the last Group 1 league match on Saturday in Sydney and qualified for the semifinals, along with New Zealand. As a result, Australia was knocked out from the tournament.
New Zealand had beaten Ireland by 35 runs to cement its semifinals berth on Friday before Australia beat Afghanistan by four runs, a margin that wasn’t enough for the Aussies to take their Net Run Rate past that of England.
