The venue for this year's Ashes Test in Perth is expected to be confirmed in the next month, with Cricket Australia (CA) acknowledging a new multi-purpose stadium may not be ready in time.

Plans were in place for December's third Test between Australia and England to be the first major sporting event held at Perth Stadium in Burswood.

However, the famous WACA Ground could yet be required to stage the contest.

A statement on the Western Australia Cricket Association website on Saturday read: "The venue for the third Ashes Test Match to be held in Perth in December is still to be confirmed, with both Perth Stadium and the WACA Ground being considered.

"Tickets for the Perth Ashes Test will go on sale once a venue for the match has been confirmed, which will take place in due course.

"The WACA and Cricket Australia will continue to work with the state government around the options for cricket content at Perth Stadium this summer, with a decision expected in the next month or so."

A Cricket Australia spokesperson added: "We are working closely with the WA government and Perth Stadium to fully understand the stadium's readiness and ability to host an Ashes Test as the first major sporting event in December this year, which has always been cricket's preference.

"Should the stadium be unable to host the Test in time, we will use the WACA Ground to host the Ashes Test, but our preference is to host this Ashes Test at Perth Stadium."
