The opening day of Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019-20 saw Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Tripura, Meghalaya and Mizoram registering wins, while six matches were abandoned due to rain.

K. Vignesh starred with the ball by taking three wickets before Dinesh Karthik, Abhinav Mukund and Baba Aparajith scored half-centuries to help Tamil Nadu beat Rajasthan by six wickets.
After restricting Rajasthan to 261 for the loss of nine wickets, Mukund and Aparajith laid the foundation for the chase as skipper Karthik with an unbeaten fifty sealed the deal in the vistors' favour. Shahrukh Khan too made a valuable contribution by scoring an unbeaten 48 as Tamil Nadu collected four full points.

Gujarat beats Bengal
Gujarat started its campaign on a high after the Parthiv Patel-led side beat Bengal by 38 runs at the Jaipura Vidhyalaya Ground in Jaipur. Gujarat rode on useful contributions from B Merai and Manpreet Junega to post 253/8.
Shreevats Goswami made a patient half-century but the middle-order collapsed with former skipper Manoj Tiwary scoring a duck. Rossh Kalaria impressed with the ball by scalping four wickets.

In Jaipur, Tamil Nadu vs Rajasthan in Elite Group C: Dinesh Karthik has calmed the nerves in the Tamil Nadu dressing room as the skipper along with Shahrukh Khan have taken their team closer to the target. TN requires another 21 runs with over four overs remaining. Should be easy.
Meghalaya trounces Sikkim to start campaign on winning note
Meghalaya registered a massive win after beating Sikkim by 194 runs to start its Vijay Hazare Trophy campaign on a winning note. An unbeaten century from D.B. Ravi Teja and a sedate half-century from Punit Bisht saw Meghalaya post 318 for the loss of five wickets.
In reply, Yashpal was the lone batsman to offer some resistance with a patient half-century as the rest collapsed with as many as four batsmen returning back to the hut without troubling the scorers. A Singhania was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets.

Ghosh, Milind star as Tripura beats J&K
Tripura rode on Milind Kumar's half-century to beat Jammu and Kashmir by two wickets at K.L. Saini Stadium in Jaipur. Chasing 198 runs to win, Tripura reached its target in 44.1 overs with Milind setting the tone with a 69-ball 77. Opener BB Ghosh also contributed in a healthy fashion with a 98-ball 62.
