Windies needs to make their own destiny, says Law

Stuart Law, the Australian coach of the West Indies cricket team, feels his side has the potential to create a new legacy.

Law said Windies will play fearless cricket in the two Tests against India starting October 4.

 

The Australian coach of the West Indies team, Stuart Law said it’s difficult to come out of the shadows of the great West Indies teams of the past.

“We keep going backwards and look backwards. Thirty or forty years ago, the West Indies players of that time, had their time. They were wonderful players. There is no denying that these players need to make their own destiny, create their own legacy as well. It’s difficult to look at shadows of giants. These guys are taking great steps forward. There is some world class talent in the team. Once they realise their potential, their names will be on everybody’s lips. We have some exciting batsmen and fast bowlers. They have to come out of the shadows of the giants and stand up. And from that success would come,” he said.

Citing India’s No.1 position in the Test ranking, Law said, “India is very difficult to beat in its own backyard. We understand that, respect that, but we are not going to fear. It’s an opportunity for our players to play against the best in the world. We have to turn up and play really good cricket. If we make the Indians to make mistakes, grab it and make it count, we have a chance.’’

Law said that West Indies’ preparation in Dubai was good. “We had just come off the CPL. Then we had a few days in Dubai, getting used to the heat and the sub-continent conditions. Physically and mentally, we are happy with our preparations. We were privileged to work at the World Academy in Dubai. They are second to none.’’
