As the Indian team gears up for the World Cup – which begins in England later this month – there has been a debate over the team’s No.4 batting slot.
But former India batsman, Gautam Gambhir, feels that K.L. Rahul should be the ideal choice for the fourth slot.
“It is about the team management to decide but it will be very crucial to see who bats at No.4. For me, K.L. Rahul should ideally bat at that slot. He is best suited among the others – Dinesh Karthik and Vijay Shankar,” Gambhir told
After a string of poor scores, Rahul returned to form in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and ended up amassing 593 runs for Kings XI Punjab and Gambhir feels the Karnataka batsman has the talent to deliver in the middle order.

“He has been in good form in the IPL and I am sure, he is going to carry that form into the World Cup,” Gambhir, who played a key role in India’s World Cup win in 2011, said.
He also admitted that the current team has the strongest pace bowling unit. “We have got the best bowling attack in whatever World Cups have happened. We have got a very strong side,” Gambhir said.
However, the former India opener is a bit concerned about the fifth bowling slot. “Fifth bowler worries me,” Gambhir said, making it clear that the wickets in England have gone flat and it would be interesting to see how Kedar Jadhav and Hardik Pandya step up.
Gambhir, meanwhile, admitted that the conditions in England won’t matter much.
“All conditions have become similar so it doesn’t matter whether you are playing in England, Australia or England,” he said.
While he will be rooting for India, Australia and England are the other favourites for the former India batsman.
