The Chennai Football Association had announced that it will start its senior division league on February 26, but in a twist, its parent association, the Tamil Nadu Football Association, has deemed the conduct of the upcoming edition of the local league “illegal”, reasoning that the last season’s champion hasn’t been announced yet. Hence, the TFA raised the issue with the All India Football Federation.

Speaking to Sportstar on Monday, AIFF Secretary Kushal Das acknowledged receiving communication, and added that it will be taken up by the Executive Committee.

“We will refer the matter to our Executive Committee which will meet over it, and get back to the TFA.”

Last season, Chennai FC finished atop the senior division league with 28 points. However, CFA docked three points from Chennai FC for fielding `ineligible' players forcing the club to file an appeal at the Madras High Court. The High Court ordered the club and the association to settle the matter outside court.
