Aizawl FC sacks head coach Paulo Meneses

Meneses was sacked after the club remained winless in its last seven I-League matches.

Defending I-League champion Aizawl FC sacked its coach Paulo Meneses late ion Monday. The Portuguese took over from the departing Khalid Jamil at the start of the 2017-18 season.

His sacking came after the North-east club remained winless in its last seven league matches. Aizawl has 17 points from the 13 matches played so far and is four points above the relegation zone. His assistant Izan Martin Andres was also relieved of his duties.

An official statement from the club read, "We have decided to part ways with our Portuguese head coach Paulo Jorge Coelho Meneses after seven consecutive ‘winless matches’ in the ongoing I-League campaign.

"We expressed our appreciation of the hardwork and commitment of Meneses but the match results matter most in professional football. All the best to Meneses."

A club official informed Sportstar that a new head coach will be appointed on Tuesday.
