Brazil tops FIFA rankings

Neymar’s side topples Germany, which drops to second despite winning the Confederations Cup last month.

Captained by the Paris Saint Germain striker Neymar, Brazil has knocked Germany off the top of the FIFA rankings released on Thursday.

World champion Germany dropped to second despite winning the Confederations Cup last month after some rolling historical results were devalued.

Lionel Messi's Argentina is in third and modest Switzerland, with a 100 per cent record in World Cup qualifiers, is fourth, which is higher than it has been since 1994.

Poland, which boasts Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski amongst its ranks, is at a historic high of fifth having dropped just two points in its own qualifiers as European champion Portugal dropped two places to fifth.
