Bundesliga, As it Happened: Bayern, Dortmund win ahead of Der Klassiker

Bayern beat Eintracht Frankfurt 5-2 at home (Allianz Arena), while Dortmund beat Wolfsburg 2-0 away from home (Volkswagen Arena) earlier in the day. Bayer Leverkusen beat Borussia Monchengladbach 3-1 at the Borussia-Park as well.

Bayern Munich takes a four-point lead over Borussia Dortmund into Tuesday's Der Klassiker between the two teams. Both the sides looked both dangerous and sloppy today. But both the German giants won their respective games.

90' Frankfurt's Almamy Toure fizzes over a cross which doesn't cause any problems for Bayern. No stoppage has been added at the end of the second half yet.

87' CLOSE! The Bayern substitute Mickael Cuisance collected a pass and managed to hold off Frankfurt's central defenders. He then went on to rifle in a shot from close-range which swerved inches past the left post.

83' WHAT A CHANCE FOR FRANKFURT! Filip Kostic produced a great solo run in the middle of the field, playmaking through the opposition's defence at full speed. But he finally fired a powerful strike that crashed against the right post. VERY CLOSE!

78' Davies and Lewandowski attempt to exchange one-two passes, but the opposition's defence intercepts the ball. CORNER FOR BAYERN! Kimmich steps up to take the corner, but the ball just sails in among the defenders.

74' GOALLLLLL!!!!! Martin Hinteregger now scores at the other end. OWN GOAL! BAYERN 5 - 2 FRANKFURT!!! Hinteregger deflected Serge Gnabry's shot past his own goalkeeper and into the goal after trying to jump in the way of a shot. Gnabry's ball wasn't heading towards the net so own goal.

73' SUBSTITUTION! Lucas Hernandez comes in for Jerome Boateng for Bayern, while Sebastian Rode makes way for Daichi Kamuda for Frankfurt.

69' GREAT CHANCE FOR FRANKFURT! Mijat Gacinovic wastes a huge opportunity! He receives a precise cross inside the penalty area and releases a quick shot that sails towards the bottom left corner. His effort, however, lacks power and Bayern shot-stopper Neuer dives to make a stunning save.

64' SUBSTITUTION! Bayern's first of the night. Hansi Flick brings in Serge Gnabry for Ivan Perisic. In case you missed it, Obite N'Dicka was replaced by Timothy Chandler for Adi Hutter's Frankfurt side right at the beginning of the second half.

61' GOALLLLL!!!!!  ALPHONSO DAVIES SCORES FOR BAYERN!!! WHAT A MISTAKE BY FRANKFURT SKIPPER GELSON FERNANDES! Davies made the initial run into the box. He had Coman next to him. But Fernandes intercepted at the right. However, he immediately gave back the ball to Davies with a poor pass inside the box. The Canadian made no mistake a he found the back of the net.

58' Andre Silva, the loanee from AC Milan, forces a pass into the box, but Bayern captain Manuel Neuer is alert and does a great job to rob him off the ball.

55' GOALLLLLL!!!!!!! BRACE FOR HINTEREGGER!!! BAYERN 3 - 2 FRANKFURT! Another Rode corner another Hinteregger goal. This time the tall Frankfurt centre-back powered an unstoppable header in off the left post. Bayern Munich's lead has been reduced to one now.

52' CORNER FOR FRANKFURT! Sebastian Rode will take it. AND GOALLLLLL!!!!!!! MARTIN HINTEREGGER SCORES!!! The ball slipped through the box to Hinteregger and he blasts it inside the right post, giving the goalkeeper Manuel Neuer no chance.

49' Thomas Muller clips a neat ball into the box towards Ivan Perisic, whose header from the centre of the box goes a whisker wide of the left post.

46' GOAAAALLLLLLLL! LEWANDOWSKI MAKES IT 3-0 FOR BAYERN MUNICH! And the goal comes in the first minute of the second half. Kingsley Coman comes up with the assist. He displayed his great technique and produced a beautiful lofted cross deep into the box. Lewandowski got onto the scoresheet by heading it into the roof of the net.

THE SECOND HALF BEGINS!

Bayern Munich has thoroughly dominated this game against Eintracht Frankfurt at home from the word go. It looks the like the team would regain its four-point lead over Borussia Dortmund at the top of the Bundesliga standings at the end of the outing.

The top-two teams in the table will fight it out for bragging rights on Tuesday night during the Der Klassiker at the Signal Iduna Park. Until then, forty-five minutes to go in this game. Stay Tuned!

45' FREE-KICK FOR BAYERN! Kimmich will take it but it is a little too much for the players inside the box. There will be two minutes of stoppage time at the end of the first half.

41' GOOAAAAALLLLLL!!! THOMAS MULLER SCORES! BAYERN 2 - 0 FRANKFURT!! Alphonso Davies completed the assist with his left foot from the left flank. Muller had a bit of trouble controlling the ball inside the box but his finish was inch-perfect. VAR CHECK! There's a pause in play to check for offside. However, the goal is given in the end.

38' ANOTHER CORNER FOR BAYERN! Joshua Kimmich will take from the right side. VERY CLOSE! Lewandowski's diving header just goes off target. Frankfurt players should be really relieved now.

35' YELLOW CARD!! Martin Hinteregger of Frankfurt goes into the referee's book for an arm to Lewandowski's mouth. That was a harsh tackle. FREE-KICK FOR BAYERN!

32' CORNER FOR BAYERN! Kingsley Coman gets on the end of a pass at the edge of the box but his shot is blocked. The ball goes out of play and it's a set-piece for the host.

30' A pass by Almamy Toure ends up in no man's land, and Frankfurt's attacking effort comes to an end. This was a golden chance for the visiting side.

28' The linesman raises his flag for offside before Robert Lewandowski heads on. The Bayern striker has looked a bit rusty since the last game against Union Berlin.

26' Bayern Munich has been dominating this game. The team has 65% possession so far. It has also attempted four shots on goal and taken four corners in the first 25 mins. The side has a successful pass percentage of over 90% too.

21' Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp makes a straightforward save to deny Bayern Munich winger Ivan Perisic. It's still a one-goal lead for the home side.

17' GOOOAAAAALLLLLLLL!!!!! BAYERN 1 - 0 FRANKFURT!!! LEON GORETZKA SCORES! Thomas Muller claims another assist. This time the move was on the left wing. Muller's cross was a low one into the box. Lewandowski missed the ball but Goretzka buried it into the back of the net.

14' ANOTHER BAYERN CHANCE! Kimmich executes a one-two with Goretzka initially. He then puts a ball into the box towards Pavard whose shot is saved brilliantly by Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp. As expected, Frankfurt is clearly struggling tonight.

11' CORNER FOR BAYERN! Alphonso Davies is really troubling the Frankfurt defence tonight. His pace is just too hot to handle. He wins a set-piece for the home team. CLOSE! Muller took the corner and and Lewandowski almost found the back of the net. His powerful shot went out after hitting the bar. The post is still vibrating.

7' CHANCE! This move was on the right flank. Bayern was pushing forward with numbers there. Frankfurt was putting bodies behind the ball to block shots. However, the ball fell to Muller, whose cross just missed the head of Robert Lewandowski.

3' Eintracht Frankfurt is on a four-game losing streak on in the Bundesliga, while Bayern Munich is currently enjoying a five-game winning run in the German top-division.

AND THE MATCH BEGINS!

Thomas Muller, who struggled under previous Bayern head coach Niko Kovac, has been a revelation under Hansi Flick. He has bagged six goals and a whopping 16 assists in the 2019-20 Bundesliga season.

REMINDER: Manuel Neuer has signed a new contract extension which will keep him at Bayern Munich till 2023.

Borussia Dortmund beats Wolfsburg 2-0 to go to 57 points, which is just one short of Bayern Munich. However, the table-topper has a game in hand against Eintracht Frankfurt, which will start in an hour from now.

Another reminder, the top-two Bundesliga teams as of now will face off against each other in the Der Klassiker on Tuesday night.

90+4' CORNER FOR WOLFSBURG! Arnold will take it. The ball goes out again. Another set-piece for the home team. Arnold will take it again but Burki, who is on his way to a ninth clean sheet of the season, punches away the ball to avoid the danger.

90' FOUR MINUTES OF STOPPAGE TIME TO BE ADDED ON AT THE END OF THE SECOND HALF! Borussia Dortmund just wasting time now.

86' SUBSTITUTION! Wolfsburg boss Glasner decides to make a change. Admir Mehmedi makes way for Joao Victor. YELLOW CARD! Maximillian Arnold is booked by the referee for a mistimed tackle.

83' DOUBLE CHANGE! Dortmund manager Favre brings in Balerdi and Schmelzer for Delaney and Guerreiro respectively. Dortmund is done with it substitutions for the game.

82' RED CARD!!!! VAR IS BACK!! The Wolfsburg substitute Felix Klaus is sent off for a boot on aKanji's ankle. Didn't look intentional but the referee sends him off.

79' SUBSTITUTION!!! Thorgan Hazard makes way for Giovanni Reyna. There's a pause in play and the referee heads to the VAR monitor. The challenge by Felix Klaus on Manuel Akanji is under question here.

78' GOOOAAALLLLL!!!! DORTMUND 2 - 0 WOLFSBURG! HAKIMI DOUBLES THE LEAD!! Two mistakes from Wolfsburg in this game and two goals. Sancho received the ball in midfield and just went on a sprint. The defenders thought Sancho would pass the ball to Haaland but Hakimi made a wonderful run on the outside. So Sancho passed it to the Real Madrid loanee who smashed one past Casteels.

74' BOOKING! A desperate one from Thorgan Hazard. Kevin Mbabu was racing past the Dortmund midfield and Hazard just pulled him back to stop the Wolfsburg move. In the end, he receives a well-deserved yellow card.

71' Dortmund's first corner now. Raphael Guerreiro almost found the back of the net. He reached the rebound on Sancho's shot and blasted one on goal. Sancho should have passed the ball instead of trying to shoot. However, a deflection of Casteels results in a corner.

70' Wolfsburg wins the first corner of the game. Dortmund defence struggled too much to keep the ball away from the net. However, the home team messes up the corner to give away possession.

66' YELLOW CARD! John Brooks goes into the referee's book for a rash tackle on Dortmund's latest substitution - Jadon Sancho.

65' CHANGE! Jadon Sancho finally comes on to the field. Lucien Favre brings Julian Brandt back in as Sancho gets a chance to make a mark.

64' SUBSTITUTIONS! Double change by Wolfsburg. Josip Brekalo comes in for Daniel Ginczek, while Felix Klaus replaces Jerome Roussillon in the middle.

61' BOOKING! First one for a Wolfsburg player today. Daniel Ginczek is the player at fault in midfield. Just a reminder - Emre Can had replaced Mats Hummels at half-time. FREE-KICK FOR DORTMUND.

56' YELLOW CARD!!! Thomas Delaney takes out Maximillian Arnold with a silly tackle. FREE-KICK FROM A GOOD POSITION FOR WOLFSBURG. NOTE: Dortmund hasn't conceded a goal from set-pieces apart from corners this season.

52' No corner kicks yet in the game but 30 throw-ins out of which 20 was for Dortmund. The home team is slowly gaining ground in the possession race as it touches the 40% mark.

48' WHAT A CHANCE! Renato Steffen misses a sitter. Weghorst's outmuscled Akanji to set up his teammate Steffen for a potential equaliser. But the Wolfsburg man hits the post, when he was one-on-one with the keeper Burki.

AND THE SECOND-HALF BEGINS!

Dortmund takes a 1-0 lead into half-time. Raphael Guerreiro makes the difference for his side. But the move leading to his goal was a pure team effort.

Both teams have looked rusty so far. There's not much eye-catching football on display, however, possession-wise Dortmund has clearly dominated. Forty-five minutes to go!

AND THE FIRST 45 MINUTES COME TO AN END!

45+2' FOUL! FREE-KICK FOR WOLFSBURG. Erling Haaland brings down Steffen with a clip on the ankle. This should be the last action of the half.

45' THROW-IN FOR WOLFSBURG! But Dortmund immediately regains possession. TWO MINUTES OF STOPPAGE TIME TO BE ADDED ON AT THE END OF THE FIRST HALF!

41' ANOTHER CHANCE FOR DORTMUND! Dahoud with a good long ball to the goalscorer Guerreiro, who finds Brandt with a quick pass. But Steffen intercepts Brandt to avert the danger.

37' More side-passes from Dortmund. The team looks to be happy with heading into the interval with a 1-0 lead. Thorgan Hazard just completed his 12th assist of the season.

32' GOAAAALLLLLLL!!!!! DORTMUND 1 - 0 WOLFSBURG!! RAPHAEL GUERREIRO IS IN SOME SORT OF SCORING FORM. This was a great team move from the visitors. Julian Brandt's brilliant pass to Hakimi on the right wing started the move. Hakimi then found Thorgan Hazard inside the box. Hazard put in a low cross which was missed by Erling Haaland. Fortunately for Dortmund, Raphael Guerreiro slotted it home with his left foot.

29' Dortmund is short on forward passes so far. Lots of passes have been sent sideways. No threatening moves so far. This is very different from from the visitor's original style. There hasn't been much pace on the wings today.

25' CLOSE! Wolfsburg's first proper chance of the game. Jerome Roussillon with a brilliant move on the left flank. He cuts back to evade Hakimi and passes the ball to Admir Mehmedi who sends a cross into the box. However, weghorst's shot misses the target.

22' Wolfsburg hasn't really tested the Dortmund backline yet. They are just sitting back. Similarly, despite all the moves forward, there hasn't been a clear cut chance for Dortmund either.

18' This is innovative from Wolfsburg! They are using an audio of fans cheering to boost the ambience. This would definitely help during the Der Klassiker between Bayern Munich and Dortmund on Tuesday.

15' Great pass from Delaney to find Hakimi but once again a Dortmund man gets dispossessed on the right. The Wolfsburg players are pretty happy to defend right now.

12' Thorgan Hazard and Brandt have to do better with their crosses today because the home team has been spot on defensively this season.

10' CHANCE! Brandt tries to put in a cross. But the Wolfsburg defence clears it away. The visiting side has a posession of over 70% now. It has also completed close to a hundred successful passes already.

6' GOAL-KICK FOR WOLFSBURG! Die Borussen dominating the early exchanges. They havent conceded a single goal in the last five fixtures against Wolfsburg.

4' Borussia Dortmund sticking to the 3-4-3 formation today with Erling Haaland as the target man. No place for Sancho yet and if you didn't know before, Gotze will leave Dortmund at the end of the season.

PREVIEW:

Borussia Dortmund will be looking to maintain the pressure on Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga standings when it travels to the Volkswagen Arena to take on Wolfsburg on Saturday.

Lucien Favre’s men extended their winning streak to five matches with a resounding 4-0 victory over Schalke last week during the competition's restart after a two-month hiatus, keeping them just four points adrift of leader Bayern with eight games to go.

Wolfsburg's top scorer Wout Weghorst is available once again following suspension, although Josuha Guilavogui, William and Yannick Gerhardt haven't attained full fitness.

Jadon Sancho and Emre Can should come back into the starting line-up for Dortmund after regaining full fitness but Nico Schulz, Dan-Axel Zagadou and Marco Reus remain sidelined.

Meanwhile, reigning Bundesliga champion Bayern welcomes struggling Eintracht Frankfurt to the Allianz Arena on Saturday afternoon, as Hans-Dieter Flick's side looks to maintain its place at the top of the table.

The Bavarians returned to action last weekend with a 2-0 win at Union Berlin. On the other hand, Frankfurt was well beaten by Borussia Monchengladbach in its previous game. Adolf Hutter's team is just five points above the relegation play-off place.

The home team remains without Philippe Coutinho and Corentin Tolisso, both of whom remain sidelined after undergoing surgery. However, Niklas Sule is closing in on a return.

The visiting side is without midfielder Dominik Kohr who is suspended following his fifth yellow card of the season, while striker Goncalo Paciencia is still out injured with a muscle problem.
