The Indian women’s football team slipped to a 1-5 defeat at the hands of Morocco in the COTIF Cup on Sunday in Valencia, Spain.

In a relatively dull first half where both teams failed to sizzle, it was the Indian side which scored the opening goal of the evening. Santhiya latched onto an Umapati Devi cross in the 42nd minute and bundled it home to put the Indians ahead.

Morocco, however, got back on level terms in the 49th minute when the African side scored from the penalty spot.

The Moroccans doubled their lead a minute later and netted again in the 56th minute to extend their lead to 3-1. Back-to-back goals in the 69th and 70th minutes sealed an emphatic win for the African side.

The Indian women will play their last match of the tournament against Madrid C.F. on August 6th.
