A 90th-minute strike from Danish Farooq helped Real Kashmir FC (RKFC) down reigning I-League champion Chennai City FC (CCFC) by a solitary goal, in a group ‘C’ league match of the Durand Cup at Kalyani Stadium on Wednesday.

The result helped RKFC maintain its winning record against CCFC, which was reduced to 10 men after goalkeeper Kabir T. was given marching orders in the 76th minute.

Having won both the previous two meetings in last season’s I-League, RKFC continued its dominance and enjoyed a greater number of chances in the opening half. But Kabir stood alert under the bar and made a few good saves to keep the RKFC at bay.

Chennai City, which tried out its Indian recruits treating the tournament as a pre-season outing, continued to hold RKFC’s onslaughts after the break before Kabir received the marching orders for handling the ball outside the box.

Real Kashmir made the most of its numerical superiority as Farooq found the target in the 90th minute to secure the win.

Full-time result: Real Kashmir FC 1 (Danish Farooq 90) beats Chennai City FC 0.
