ATK completes Soosairaj, Regin and McHugh signings

Indian Super League side ATK has completed the big-money signing of Michael Soosairaj from Jamshedpur FC.

Michael Soosairaj scored four goals during the 2018-19 ISL season.

Two-time Indian Super League champion ATK has completed the big-money signing of Michael Soosairaj from Jamshedpur FC, the club announced on Tuesday. The Tamil Nadu attacking midfielder joins the Kolkata franchise on a five-year contract.

Soosairaj will be joined by his brother, Michael Regin, who arrives on a free transfer after his stint with I-League champion Chennai City FC. The 31-year-old had a successful two-year spell with Chennai City.

ATK also reinforced its defence with the signing of versatile defender Carl McHugh from Motherwell FC.

Antonio Habas' side has retained Spanish midfielder Manuel Lanzarote and English defender John Johnson for the next season.

Soosairaj, who scored four goals in 14 appearances in the 2018-19 season, will be playing in ATK colours after the club reportedly activated his buyout clause of Rs. 90 lakh.

He had his breakthrough at Chennai City during the 2017-18 season where he was voted the midfielder of the season.

Sportstar has learnt that Soosairaj's transfer was facilitated by Mumbai based Soccer Consultants Group and advised by advocate Aashish Srivastava, of Equicorp Assocaiates.

Chennai City will stand to earn a 10 per cent signing-on fee from the transfer.

"Carl McHugh is a very versatile and exciting player. His talent and his leadership skills will impact the team in a very positive way. I welcome him to the ATK family. Michael Soosairaj and Michael Regin are experienced players who have been playing competitive football in India. Their understanding of the game, their attacking style will add value to ATK," Habas said, of the new signings.
