I-League: Leaders Bengaluru take on goal-shy Sporting

After four away fixtures in the first month of the I-League season, Bengaluru FC will embark on a run of three successive home games in eight days, hoping to consolidate its position at the top of the table. BFC will face Sporting Clube de Goa at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium here on Saturday, before meeting DSK Shivajians and Mohun Bagan.

With 12 points from five games, BFC holds a two-point lead over Mohun Bagan, but the latter has a game in hand. Sporting, on the other hand, has four points from its four matches, having managed to score only three goals so far.

“We have to keep the momentum going,” the BFC head coach Ashley Westwood said here on Friday. “Sporting can be a tough opponent. We'll need to work as hard as we did against East Bengal or we won't get anything out of the game.”

BFC will continue to miss the services of Eugeneson Lyngdoh, who has suffered a hair-line fracture in the fibula. The midfielder is expected to be out of action for a few weeks, but there is no shortage of cover.

Mateus Costa, the Sporting coach, admitted that he would be happy with a draw. “Definitely, a point will be a good outcome,” he said. “But we will go all out.”
