Santosh Kashyap named Mumbai FC manager

Santosh Kashyap played at the Cooperage ground for Mahindra United and returns to the same venue, this time as an I-League team coach.

Santosh Kashyap is also on the coaching staff of North-East United FC in the Indian Super League.

Former India midfielder and free-kick specialist Santosh Kashyap moves into the seat vacated by Khalid Jamil at Mumbai FC as the new manager for 2016-17 I-League season.

Kashyap played at the Cooperage ground for Mahindra United and returns to the same venue, this time as coach. He is on the coaching staff of North-East United FC in the Indian Super League. He worked with Goa’s Salgaocar SC last season. Kashyap’s coaching career started in 2010 after retirement, taking him to Air India, ONGC, Mohun Bagan, Rangdajied United and Royal Wahingdoh.

Jamil, also a former international, and his replacement at MFC, Kashyap, were on the 2014 batch for the AFC Pro Licence coaching course, conducted by former India senior coach, Wim Kovermans. The Netherlands international and UEFA Pro Licence Instructor Kovermans had tried to change the way the Indian team plays, preferring to make national probables play the close-passing game.

Known for an attacking approach, Kashyap, 50, worked with north-east talents Eugeneson Lyngdoh and Jackichand Singh. Wahingdoh’s third-place finish in its I-League debut was his best result.
