Indian Women’s League: Jeppiaar overcomes Aizawl

After five first-half goals, Jeppiaar IT FC emerged triumphant from its Indian Women's League fixture against Aizawl FC at Ambedkar Stadium on Friday.

Jeppiaar IT FC defeated Aizawl FC 3-2 in a close contest at the Ambedkar Stadium in New Delhi, in the inaugural edition of the Indian Women’s League. All five goals were scored in the first half of the match, with the first scored as early as in the fifth minute.

Sandhiya’s goal put Jeppiaar in the lead, before an equaliser from Elizabeth in the 11th minute. Pradeepa put Jeppiaar in the ascendancy with back-to-back goals in the 16th and 17th minute. Elizabeth got one back for Aizawl in the 30th minute.

The goalless second half was reduced to a constant battle in the midfield. Aizawl FC pressed for attack and faced a resolute defensive stance by its opponent. Jeppiaar also found a few opportunities to press forward on counter-attacks.
