Brazilian striker Thiago Cunha has replaced injured Gaston Sangoy in the Mumbai City FC line-up for the ongoing Indian Super League, the club announced today.

Sangoy is currently suffering from a fractured right foot and the 31-year-old Thiago, who has played in top leagues like the Brazilian Seria A and AFC Champions League amongst others, is a “great replacement”, said team’s head coach Alexandre Guimaraes.

“While losing Gaston to injury was a big blow, in Thiago we have found a great replacement. He has a brilliant goal scoring record and we are confident he is going to be a big asset to the club in the remainder of the season,” said Guimaraes.

Thiago had won the 2011 Brazilian Pernambucano State Championship and the 2010 Brazilian Paraibano State Championship.

With 45 appearances in his last two seasons, he proved to be a valuable asset to his teams with a good goal scoring record.

Mumbai City FC has won two, lost two and drawn two of its games so far.
