Zinedine Zidane holds the Champions League trophy

Zinedine Zidane is set to return as the head coach of Champions League holder Real Madrid for the remainder of the season. According to Spanish TV program  Jugones , the club hierarchy has decided to sack current coach Santiago Solari following a glut of poor results where Los Blancos were eliminated from Champions League and lost a Clasico double-header to Barcelona.

The announcement is expected to be made by the Spanish club at 10:30pm IST (17:00 GMT).

Solari, who was Zidane's understudy before he left the Spanish giant last summer, took over from former Spain national coach Julen Lopetegui in November, 2018. Zidane will return to the helm for the remainder of the season, but the contract details are yet to be revealed.

Zidane replaced Rafael Benitez in 2016 and led Madrid to three Champions League titles, two FIFA Club World Cups and UEFA Super Cups, a LaLiga triumph and the 2017 Supercopa de Espana.
