No decision on Murugavendan and Charles
Chennai City club officials have said that even though its Afghanistan' midfielder Zohib Islam Amiri has been "a troublesome character", the club will not get rid of him and instead adopt a wait and watch approach.

While no decision has yet been taken on getting the assistant coach M. Murugavendan and midfielder Charles Anandraj for Chennai City FC in its I-league campaign, club officials have said that even though its Afghanistan' midfielder Zohib Islam Amiri has been “a troublesome character”, the club will not get rid of him and instead adopt a wait and watch approach.
Amiri’s contract runs for five months. According to the rules, if the club and the player, on mutual consent, agrees to part ways, then the player can be paid for the period he was with the team — that is for three months in Amiri's case.
However, if there is a break in the contract, the club will have to pay the player the full amount of around Rs. 5.4 lakh. “Being a seasoned player, Amiri knows the rules. We are not keen to pay the full amount when he has played only three matches for us,” a club official said. “Our physio says he is faking injuries; also he is indulging in groupism.”
While the official was certain that Amiri will not play in the next two matches; against Shillong Lajong in Chennai on Feb.19 and the away match against Aizwal on Feb. 25, it has offered a long rope saying that if he mends his attitude, he might be given a chance to play later. “We will see how is behavior turns out to be. We might give him an opportunity. Actually, he wanted to play in the team's last home match against Churchill Brothers as he was fit, but the coach had other plans. But we are not releasing him yet.”
