Jhingan extends contract with Kerala Blasters

Defender Sandesh Jhingan has signed a contract extension with Indian Super League club Kerala Blasters.

Sandesh Jhingan has been with Kerala Blasters since its inception in 2014 and is the side's the most capped player with 78 appearances.

India international Sandesh Jhingan signed a contract extension with Indian Super League side Kerala Blasters FC on Saturday. It is believed that the deal will see him remain with the Blasters for at least another three years.

The 25-year-old has been with Kerala Blasters since its inception in 2014 and is the side's the most capped player with 78 appearances. Having led the Blasters for the last two seasons, Jhingan is also a big favourite with the club’s supporters.

However, the team, under Jhingan’s captaincy, had a horrific run last season and finished ninth among 10 teams. It was also knocked out in the opening round of the Super Cup.

“I’m staying home. This club, the fans and the State have given me a lot. It has helped me to be who I am today, so I am delighted to have extended my time at the club,” he said. He added that he had some unfinished business with the club and was hopeful of winning trophies next season.

Kerala Blasters CEO, Viren D’Silva said he was excited to have a player of Jhingan’s calibre continuing at the club. “Sandesh is as hungry and determined as when he debuted for Kerala Blasters five years ago. The club shares his ethos to work hard and leave nothing to chance,” said Viren.

Blasters has signed goalkeepers Lovepreet Singh from Indian Arrows and Bilal Khan from Real Kashmir to bolster its squad ahead of the next season.
