Mizoram's Saidan Secondary School wins Subroto Cup

Defeating defending champion Manipur's Unique Model Academy, Saidan Secondary School from Mizoram sealed its maiden Subroto Cup title.

Mizoram's Saidan Secondary School celebrates its maiden Subroto Cup victory.

Mizoram's Saidan Secondary School defeated defending champion Manipur's Unique Model Academy 2-0 to win the Diamond Jubilee edition of the Subroto Cup International Football Tournament for sub-junior boys (under-14) category. This was Saidan School’s maiden Subroto Cup victory.

Showing its attacking intent from the start, Mizoram found the early lead as B Romalsawma scored in the sixth minute. The Mizoram school had the chance to extend its lead in the 23rd minute when it was awarded a penalty but captain Hunmawia's penalty-kick was saved by Manipur goalkeeper Bijando. Mizoram led 1-0 half-time.

In the second half, Hunmawia put the past of a missed penalty behind to score his 14th goal of the tournament with seven minutes left for the final whistle. Mizoram won 2-0 as skipper Hunmawia was adjudged the top scorer.

Saidan also won the best team award while its player B Romalsawma was titled the best player of the tournament.

The best goalkeeper award went to Manipur's Bijando and Lalbulliana of Saidan Secondary School was declared the best coach. The fairplay award went to Our Lady Mount Carmel High School, Goa.

The best goalkeeper, best player and fairplay award winners won Rs. 50,000 each. Saidan was handed Rs. 25,000 and its coach took a cheque of Rs. 15,000 for their respective awards.
