The girls from Krida Shiksha Protishtan, Bangladesh showed better cohesion to overcome Government High School, Aizawl, Mizoram 1-0 and win the final of the Under-17 Subroto Cup football tournament at the Ambedkar Stadium here on Friday.

Rehana Akhtar sank the ball into the Mizo goal with a snap shot in the 10th minute in what turned out to be the decisive move of the match. Even as the Aizawl girls explored the rival half and seemed to hold the upper hand, it was the Bangladesh team which grabbed the half chance that came its way.

From a counter attack, Rehana, showing excellent presence of mind, placed herself inside the box to receive the cross and left-foot it into the goal. It happened in a flash and left the Mizoram team playing the catch up game in the remaining 50 minutes of the contest.

Credit to the Bangladesh team for not allowing the opponents a clear look of the goal. True there were a couple of chances for the Mizoram camp but they ran into a stubborn Rudna Chakma under the bar. Rudna was adjudged the best goalkeeper of the tournament.

Grace Lalrampari of Mizoram was declared the best player of the tournament while Zaya Chakma of Bangladesh claimed the best coach's award. The fair play award was given to Umtili Secondary School, Meghalaya.
