Transfer Deadline Day: Man Utd signs Odion Ighalo, Carrasco returns to Atletico

Here are the highlights from the winter transfer deadline day. While Manchester United signed Nigeria's Odion Ighalo, Yannick Carrasco returned to Atletico.

According to Sky Sports, Manchester United has reached an agreement with Nigerian forward Odion Ighalo.

In case the name doesn't ring a bell, here's more information regarding the youngster: Matheson made the headlines when he scored at Old Trafford in September as Rochdale held Manchester United to a 1-1 draw in the EFL Cup third round before losing on penalties. Wolves sporting director Kevin Thelwell told the club's website: "Our recruitment team have watched Luke since he made his debut at 15.

"The system we play, it's set up for him. He plays at right-back for Rochdale at the moment, but he's a right-wing-back in our eyes because of his energy and ability to continually sprint and recover.

"At 17, for a boy to have so much experience, be English and have such a strong mentality is fantastic, and we think he's everything we're about.

January may not see the biggest transfers as compared to the summer transfer window but in the last decade teams have splashed the cash.

The 2019 January transfer saw six deals which cost over £30 million across the top five leagues. Brazilian Philippe Coutinho's transfer to Barcelona from Liverpool in 2018 remains the biggest winter transfer.
