UEFA 'condemns' Marseille fan violence

UEFA said Saturday it "firmly condemns" the street battles involving rival fans before the England-Russia European Championship match on Saturday which left an Englishman in a critical condition. "UEFA firmly condemns the incidents in Marseille," said a UEFA spokesman. "People engaging in such violent acts have no place in football."

AFP journalists saw a man with a bloodied face receiving treatment on the ground after suffering a cardiac arrest.
