Abhijit Singh Chadha wins by five strokes

The Chandigarh-based golfer shot five birdies besides two bogeys, including one on the final hole, for a tally of 16-under 272.

Overnight leader Abhijit Singh Chadha kept his composure when it mattered and fired a three-under 69 to win the BILT Open by five strokes at the Classic Golf and Country Club in Gurgaon on Friday.

Chadha’s triumph in the Rs. 1-crore event was worth Rs. 15 lakh – the biggest cheque of his career. He now finds himself at the top of the 2015 Rolex rankings with total winnings of Rs. 17.91 lakh.

“I felt quite relaxed out there today. I didn’t feel too much pressure. I had a steady start as I hit most of the greens on the front-nine despite the tough and windy conditions. However, the putts didn’t drop for me in the first half. Nonetheless, I hung in there. No one really challenged my lead today so I knew I just needed to be patient,” said the champion.

Ajeetesh Sandhu sank birdies on the final three holes for a second successive 66 and shared the second spot with Om Prakash Chauhan. The players received Rs. 7.99 lakh each.

Second-day joint leader C. Muniyappa could only manage a 73 and settled for the fourth spot worth Rs. 4.99 lakh.

However, defending champion Anura Rohana of Sri Lanka played a forgettable round of 77, including a triple-bogey and three bogeys, for a tally of 284. He shared the 13th spot and collected Rs. 1.56 lakh.
