Following Emiliano Alfaro's season-long loan switch to ATK, FC Pune City has registered Canadian striker Iain Hume as its seventh foreigner for the remainder of the Indian Super League season, officials confirmed to Sportstar on Monday.
Hume was expected to play for Pune City only in January 2019 as he was injured and was the side's eighth foreigner and hence wasn't registered at the start of the season. However, Alfaro's move to replace the injured Kalu Uche at ATK paved the way for Hume.
The 34-year-old has made a speedy recovery from his knee injury and has been training with the club for the past month. It is likely that Hume – who is the ISL's all-time leading goal-scorer – could make his first appearance for Pune City when it hosts Jamshedpur FC on November 21.
After qualifying for the play-offs last season, Pune City has endured a dismal start to its current campaign. The Stallions languish at the bottom of the ISL table with a mere two points from seven outings. The club had sacked coach Miguel Angel Portugal after just three games and assistant coach Pradhyum Reddy was named as the interim coach.
While Pradhyum has struggled to produce results and has only managed to guide his men to a solitary point from four matches, no official announcement regarding the appointment of a new coach has been made yet.
Hume, with his knack for scoring goals and ability to pick a pass, could form a lethal partnership up front with Marcelinho and share the goal-scoring duties, which is the need of the hour for Pune City.
