Justice Garg appointed AKFI administrator

The retired judge will run the affairs of the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India until further orders from the Delhi High Court.

The Delhi High Court has appointed retired judge Justice S. P. Garg as Administrator of the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India (AKFI) to run its affairs until further orders.

Justice Garg will replace retired Indian Administrative Service officer Sanat Kaul as the Administrator of AKFI. He will also attend the selection process of a new Kabaddi team on September 15, scheduled to be held at the Thyagaraj Sport Complex in New Delhi.

Last month, the High Court had quashed the appointment of Janardan Singh Gahlot and his wife as “Life President” and president of AKFI.

The High Court gave the verdict on a plea filed by former Kabaddi player and Arjuna Awardee Mahipal Singh and others challenging the appointments of Janardan Singh Gahlot, a former Congress minister, and his wife Mridula Bhadauria Gahlot.

‘Anarchy’

The High Court had observed that there was an “apparent anarchy” prevailing in the affairs of the AKFI and said it was appalled at the manner in which every mandatory condition “was ignored with impunity” by the couple.

It ordered that the Administrator shall ensure that the Electoral College of the AKFI is prepared, and elections held, in accordance with the Model Election Guidelines, within three months.
