PKL 2018: Gujarat Fortunegiants records easy win over Puneri Paltan

Gujarat Fortunegiants' raiders Sachin and Prapanjan scored a combined 12 raid points to register a 35-20 win against Puneri Paltan.

Gujarat Fortunegiants proved its title credentials with a comfortable 35-20 win over Puneri Paltan at Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex here Thursday.

Sachin (7 points) and Prapanjan (5 points) combined to scored 12 raid points while Gujarat’s defence scored 14 tackle points and contained Pune’s raiders.

Puneri Paltan’s raiders had a quiet match with tackler Sandeep Narwal's high five the only bright spot for the host.

Gujarat Fortunegiants was top of the table in Zone A with 63 points from 15 matches while Puneri Paltan was third with 47 points from 18 matches.

Puneri Paltan got off to a quick start scoring from a raid and a tackle to lead 2-0. Gujarat Fortunegiants levelled the match at 2-2 in the second minute. After five minutes of play both teams were again tied at 5-5.

Gujarat’s strong defensive unit came to the fore once again as the tacklers scored a couple of tackle points to open a four-point lead. Things got worse for Puneri Paltan as it suffered an all out in the 11th minute.

Gujarat Fortunegiants finished the first half strongly with a 9-point lead and the score reading 20-11.

Gujarat kept the lead intact in the second half to take the match 35-20.

Puneri Paltan, fresh after a strong comeback in its last match, tried to repeat the feat but was unable to get past the strong Gujarat defence.

In the second match of the day, Bengal Warriors beat Bengaluru Bulls 44-37.
