The Army Sports Institute won the award for the Best University for the Promotion for Sports at the Sportstar Aces Awards function held at the Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai. Mithali Raj, the India women’s cricket team captain for Tests, gave away the award amid a large gathering of pre-eminent sportspersons past and present, and dignitaries.

Reflecting on the award, a spokesperson of the Army Sports Institute said, “For the last 17-18 years, the institute has, with the combination of sports scientists and new training methodology, been able to produce these quality sportsmen. We basically call them the ‘soldier sportsmen,’ making use of those soldierly qualities which can help them improve their skills and performance. The ecosystem of the institute is ideal for producing so many talented athletes, not only in any one discipline but in several sporting disciplines that we have. Archery, athletics, boxing, diving, wrestling, weightlifting are among the sporting disciplines that we have.”
